Students shine bright in STEM pitch competition
Great Mills High School lit up the room at the recent “Pitch for Your Pocket” STEM competition hosted by the Carolyn E. Parker Foundation.
The event concluded with the awarding of student innovators to seniors Braden Gutekunst, Owen Delwiche and Evan Walsh, and juniors Abril Esparza, Angela Hou, Rishi Sheth and Aarav Sharma.

Local Youth Shine in STEM Pitch Event
GREAT MILLS, Md. — Seven students from Great Mills High School earned top honors at the Pitch for Your Pocket STEM competition, hosted by the Carolyn E. Parker Foundation in early spring 2025. The event, held in Great Mills, showcased innovative projects from young minds, with winners securing $5,000 in funding and mentorship to advance their ideas. The competition highlighted the potential of local youth to shape the future through science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Spring Ridge Middle School Students Attend The Alvin Ailey Performance At The Kennedy Center
In 2020, as the founder and CEO of the Carolyn E. Parker Foundation, I had this vivid dream of taking 8th grade girls, attending Spring Ridge Middle School, to the Kennedy Center to experience the Alvin Ailey performance, explore the upcoming Kennedy exhibit and enjoy fine dining at Tony & Joes Seafood Place, located in Washington, DC. On Saturday, 11 February 2023, with the devotion and tireless effort displayed by the leaders of the Carolyn E. Parker Foundation and financial support of several committed sponsors, a dream once deferred was most humbling realized.

Congratulations to NAVAIR’s Adrienne Somerville — Commander, Fleet Readiness Centers, National Business Operations Director, AIR-6.1. Ms. Somerville received the Public Sector Heroine Award from the March of Dimes at their annual Heroines of Washington Gala on November 02, 2017, for her outstanding community service. The March of Dimes Heroines of Washington recognizes and honors working women in various public and private sectors within the DC Metro Area for their commitment to community service.

Spring Ridge Middle School’s Young Ladies Empowerment Committee Attends NAVAIR Black History Month Program
On Thursday, February 4, 2016, the NAVAIR (Naval Air Systems Command) African-American Pipelines Advisory Team (APAT) and EEO & Diversity Division presented their Black History Month Program. This event took place at the Rivers Edge Conference Center on the Naval Air Station in Patuxent River, Maryland. The theme was Hallowed Grounds: Trendsetters and the event was video teleconferenced to all of the NAVAIR sites.
